MANILA, Philippines — The Binibining Pilipinas pageant crowned early Monday its newest beauty queens namely Shamcey Supsup as Bb. Pilipinas-Universe, Dianne Necio as Bb. Pilipinas-International and Isabella Manjon as Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism.

Supsup, a magna cum laude graduate from the University of the Philippines College of Architecture, will be representing the country in the Miss Universe pageant to be held in Sao Paolo, Brazil in September.
Meanwhile, Necio, who won as first runner-up in last year’s Binibining Pilipinas, will be representing the Philippines in the Miss International competition to be held in Chengdu, China later this year.

Also named during the awarding ceremonies held at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City were Janine Tugonon, 1st runner-up, and Mary Jean Lastimosa, 2nd runner-up.

The coronation was hosted by actors KC Concepcion and Derek Ramsay together with former title holders Precious Lara Quigaman (2005 Miss International) and Miriam Quiambao (1999 Miss Universe 1st runner-up). It was aired over ABS-CBN channel 2.

Present during the coronation to relinquish their titles were Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2010 and Miss Universe 4th runner-up Venus Raj, Bb. Pilipinas-World 2010 Czarina Gatbonton and Bb. Pilipinas-International 2010 Krista Kleiner.

Board topnotcher is 2011 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe; Trike driver is Manila Bulletin Readers' Choice

MANILA, Philippines -- Beauty and brains.

These exemplify Shamcey Supsup, topnotcher of the 2010 board examinations for architecture, who was crowned 2011 Bb. Pilipinas- Universe Sunday night at the Araneta Coliseum.

If Supsup has beauty and brains, crowd favorite and this year’s Manila Bulletin Readers’ Choice awardee, Luzelle Felipe, has a big fighting heart.

A day after the Bb. Pilipinas pageant, Felipe – a part-time tricycle driver – vowed to join anew the beauty contest to fulfill her ultimate dream of becoming a beauty queen.

“Madami po akong pangarap. Pero pangarap ko talaga maging beauty queen.’’

“Hindi ako sasali next year. Pero siguro pag-nasa 20s na po ako, sasali po uli ako sa beauty contest at gusto ko Bb. Pilipinas pageant uli. By that time, ready na talaga ako,” said Felipe, who also won the Best Long Gown, in a phone interview from her home in Bulacan.

While waiting for her time, Felipe wants to go into modeling and enroll in an English language course. “Gusto kong maging perfect ang pagsasalita ko ng English kasi medyo mahina po ako sa grammar. Yun ang gusto kong matutunan.’’

Felipe said she also wants to become a flight stewardess.

Felipe, 18, hails from Bulacan. She stands 5’7” and weighs 108 lbs. Felipe has just graduated from the Bulacan Polytechnic College where she obtained a certificate course in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Her hobbies include composing songs, volleyball, singing and dancing.

But what surprised the public was the fact that Felipe used to drive a tricycle to earn extra income. She said that she is not ashamed of being a part-time tricycle driver because it is through tricycle driving that she earned extra income.

“Apat po kaming magkakapatid, bale. Ako pa lang po yung nakakapagsuot ng itim na toga. Kung hindi po ako tinulungan ng ninang ko, hindi po ako makakapag-aral,” said Felipe, in a recent interview over ABS-CBN “TV Patrol.’’ She added: “Basta kung gusto mo. Magagawa’t magagawa mo.’’

Meanwhile, Supsup will represent the country in the 2011 Miss Universe beauty contest in Sao Paolo, Brazil in September.

“Ang daming magaganda, I still can't believe it!” Supsup said. Asked if she feels the pressure to duplicate, if not surpass, the success of Maria Venus Raj in the 2010 Miss Universe contest, she said: “Basta, I will do my best in Brazil. Kung para sa'yo, it's for you talaga (If the crown is yours, then it is for you).”

Supsup, 24, stands 5'7 1/4 and weighs 105 lbs. Her hobbies include painting, reading books, and drawing.

She studied in grade school for one year in Thailand and graduated salutatorian in high school. Later, she finished magna cum laude at the College of Architecture of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. In the architecture board exams released last June, Supsup was ranked No. 1 with a rating of 86.60 percent.

Supsup also won special awards such as Best in Talent, Miss Philippine Airlines, and Miss Cream Silk.

Other winners are Dianne Necio, 17, of Albay, who was crowned the 2011 Bb. Pilipinas International; Isabela Manjon, 23, who won the 2011 Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism title, a new plum that replaced the Bb. Pilipinas-World title; Janine Tugonon, first runner-up; and Mary Jean Lastimosa, second runner-up. Those who won special awards were Queenierich Rehman, Best in Swimsuit; Luzelle Felipe, Manila Bulletin Readers' Choice Award and Best in Long Gown; Angelia Ong, Face of Bb. Pilipinas; and Samantha Purvor, Miss Friendship.

The most emotional moment of the night was the crowning of Necio as 2011 Bb. Pilipinas-International. She will represent the country in the 2011 Miss International contest in Japan.

Necio was last year’s first runner-up and was supposed to represent the country in the 2010 Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada, when Venus Raj was dethroned as 2010 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe.

But the Miss Universe Organization said Necio did not meet the age requirements of the pageant. She was replaced by second runner-up Nicolette Henson.

Before the pageant, Raj was reinstated and she competed in Las Vegas, where she won fourth runner-up.

Necio, a nursing student, decided to compete again this year, saying she was ready for the pageant. Her hobbies include baton-twirling and playing the piano.

Manjon, meanwhile, weighs 125 lbs. and is a varsity swimmer.

Organizers said that the top three winners will get a management con¬tract worth P500,000 from the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI), scholarships from the Entrepreneur School of Asia, Dale Carnegie Training Center, and Berlitz Language Center, a trip to the Miss Universe/Miss International headquarters, personal accident insurance worth P2 million from Charter Insurance Corporation, wardrobe package and free membership from Gold's Gym. The winners will also enjoy a year's supply of Cream Silk products.
Organizers said that the total prize package in cash and kind is worth more than P4 million, the record for the biggest prize in pageant history.

Among the members of the board of judges were Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eduardo Oban, Jr., Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda, former Miss Universe Margie Moran-Florendo, Charo Santos-Concio, Silvana Fornari, Gilbert Simpao, Ernie Lopez, Hugh Wilson, Alex Cabagnot, Charlemagne Uy, and Christino Naguiat Jr.

Architect hailed as Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011

MANILA, Philippines – 24-year old architect Shamcey Supsup is still in a daze after being crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011 on April 10.

“I still can't believe it. Parang panaginip. Kanina nung nag announce na, sabi ko it's God's will. If it's for you, it's for you. You just have to believe it," Supsup told Yahoo's omg! Philippines in a post-pageant interview.

"Whatever happens, it happens for a reason and God has a plan for every one of us... Ang dami talagang magaganda. Ang dami talagang magagaling. Feeling ko the judges had a hard time choosing the winner for the year," she added.

Supsup, a General Santos City-native, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines - Diliman’s College of Architecture and topped the June 2010 Architecture License Exam.

While Supsup feels no pressure in trying to achieve the same feat as her predecessor, Ma. Venus Raj (also crowned Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up), she said that she will give it her best shot at the pageant, which will be held at Sao Paolo, Brazil.

“I'm not pressured at all kasi I believe I was here for a reason and whatever my destiny is, I'll do my best. I'm just gonna give it my all and I hope that whatever I'm gonna do there [Brazil] 'yun ang hinahanap nila at kung para talaga sa 'yo para talaga sa 'yo,” she told Yahoo's omg.

Aside from winning said title, Supsup also took home special awards Best in Talent, Miss PAL and Miss Cream Silk.

Meanwhile, the Bininibing Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) awarded, for the first time, the Binibining Pilipinas-Tourism crown as replacement to the Binibining Pilipinas-World title, which branched out this year as a separate beauty pageant. Isabella Manjon bagged said crown, while Dianne Necio is this year’s Binibining Pilipinas-International.

Necio, who was the pageant’s first runner-up last year, said that she did not expect winning anything and just left her fate to the Lord.

“I'm just thankful na I will have the chance to compete in an international title... Talagang 'pag 'di mo tinigilan 'yung dream mo, maaabot mo siya... [so] keep on praying,” she added.

More, Janine Tugonon finished in fourth place and Mary Jean Lastimosa, fifth.

Other lucky ladies who took home special awards are Queenierich Rehman (Best in Swimsuit), Luzelle Felipe (Best in Long Gown and Manila Bulletin Reader’s Choice), Angelia Ong (People's Choice for the Face of Binibining Pilipinas 2011), Samantha Purvor (Miss Friendship) and Elizabeth Clenci (Best in National Costume).

RELINQUISHING THE CROWN

MAJOR, MAJOR By Venus Raj
The Philippine Star
April 10, 2011

Tonight, I shall pass on the crown to whoever is deserving of the title Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2011.
I will never get tired recalling how this journey started. I was just a girl who dared to dream and was generously blessed with people who helped me along the way.

Good or bad, I cherish all memories because I appreciate how everything works out to shape me into a better person every day. But this past year has been extra special for me because it started a new chapter in a way I never imagined. It really was a dream come true.

Both nervous and excited, I still remember my first few days as a beauty queen. The newfound popularity was intimidating because I was aware of the great responsibility that came with it. I was especially not prepared for even more attention particularly surrounding the brief controversy that really tested my faith and resilience. In all of these I was truly blessed with people who were my stronghold. And eventually, everything turned out very well indeed.

I will forever be grateful to Madam Stella Marquez de Araneta, Mr. Jorge Araneta and the Araneta family, as well as the BPCI organization for this opportunity of a lifetime.

Special thanks to the OPMB family and Mabuhay Beauties for campaigning and supporting me during the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas: Boyet Blas, Jory Rivera, Felix Manuel, Raymond Derek Samson, Gino Fernando, John Morante, Dondi, Adam Mears, Darwin Mendoza, Raymond Satalal, Ronald Quilon, Reianna Sanchez, Geoffrey Campaner Hutchinson, Rosalyn Andersen, Sheila Cabuco Butler,Yari Paris, Nikette Henson, Ross Misa and Lia Andrea Ramos, Fortunato Nacua and Mary Doreen Seitz. Thank you also to my dentist, Dr. Ronwaldo Navarro, my dermatologist, Dr. Genevieve de Guzman.

To Paula Shugart and the Miss Universe organization, thank you so much!

To all our mentors and sponsors, thank you for the wisdom and learnings that you have shared with us!

To the past queens, thank you for all the wonderful experiences.
To the GAY COMMUNITY, I salute all of you for being so courageous in fighting for my crown and thank you for always believing in me.

To my ABS-CBN family, thank you for accepting me wholeheartedly.

To Atty. Francis Papica, Atty. Gigi Berberabe, Atty. Ted Pastrana, Atty. Dickson Berberabe and Atty. Fe Buelva. Thank you guys for being my defense system.

To my ACES and Queens family, my mentor Jonas Antonio Gaffud and Mercator Model and Artist Management, to my mommy Ruffa “Arnold Mercado”, Mama Nad, Kuya Albert, Kuya Arj, Bessy, Edda, John Cuay, direk Jeffrey Jeturian, Tito Ces Evangelista and Tito Gerry Diaz. To my friends, Kuya Jerome, Mama Anjo, Kuya Tyrone. To Kuya Alden and Melody, you will always be in my heart.

To the Municipality of Bato, San Vicente High School faculty, my Bicol University professors. To my best friends Mau, Bubbles and Dunhill and to all my journalism classmates; to Tito Ricky and The Philippine STAR.

To all the Bicolanos, thank you for all the support. To my family, mama, papa, to my beautiful sisters, nene, Ate Inday, Ate Cel and Ate Ning-Ning, you are the best sisters in the world!

To God, you are my inspiration in everything. I dedicate all these achievements to you. You are the ultimate reason for my existence. I cannot thank you enough. We may excel and fail, but if we have faith in God… everything is a blessing.

This page is not enough to contain the names of all the people I owe this success to, I apologize for missing out some, but be assured you are all in my heart and my love goes out to all of you.

Everybody deserves to have their dreams come true. I had my turn, and it is someone else’s turn this time around.

The next lady who will be crowned tonight will definitely be blessed with a most captivating and transforming experience and I wish her all the best.

Venus Raj to share everything she knows about competing in beauty pageants to the next title holders

by Rommel R. Llanes
April 8, 2011
pep.ph

"Well, nung una, parang...kasi halos kahit saan, di ba, lumalabas?

Pilipinas-Universe, may panibago nang magko-compete for international pageant. I'm happy, actually, for them. At least, mae-enjoy rin nila kung ano yung na-experience ko sa international pageant. Mae-experience din nila yung feeling ng ano ang feeling na naroon at nagko-compete. And I'm always praying na sana, galingan din nila. Na sana, ma-surpass nila kung ano yung na-attain natin this year."
