A crash course on Binibining Pilipinas

By Cai Subijano

MANILA, Philippines - During my two-month stint as a Binibining Pilipinas candidate, I experienced things that I never thought I would, such as dancing repeatedly on national television and riding through EDSA seated on an open-top sports car wearing nothing but a bikini and a ginormous headdress. Looking back, it seemed like a never-ending whirl of hair and makeup, followed by more hair and makeup while teetering from one place to another in five-inch heels. By the end of it, not only did I gain a newfound set of mad makeup skillz (Solenn, you better watch yourself; just kidding — I totally worship you.), but also mad respect for beauty queens and candidates alike. I may not have won, but I didn’t lose anything either because I picked up quite a number of valuable lessons on my rocky road to the crown:

1. Walking like a beauty queen is not easy
In pageantry, there is a time-honored exercise for beauty queen-hopefuls to train their hips to sway more when they walk. It is called (don’t laugh) the duck walk. Why the unfortunate name? I have no idea, but my feet start cramping up at the mere mention of this probable form of medieval torture. Try wearing heels no lower than four inches, fold your arms behind your back and lunge as low as your thighs and glutes will allow you while simultaneously thrusting your hips from side to side. One end of the room to another constitutes a single round. Repeat for a minimum of 10 rounds to a maximum of 20, then die from sheer exhaustion.

2. Plastic surgery is surprisingly common among candidates
I’ll be the very first person to admit that getting my chest, uh, enhanced actually crossed my mind. However, after a visit to the surgeon’s office and getting the opportunity to play around with actual silicon implants (i.e. stuffing them into my bra), I decided to leave without buying anything because I’m terrified of scalpels.
It’s not that I have anything against it. Some of the candidates who underwent a couple of nips and tucks, the most common being rhinoplasties and breast augmentation, were totally open about it and definitely more confident about themselves after. While there were rumors brewing that some candidates went as far as liposuction or rib removal (I kid you not) just to achieve Venus Raj’s 22-inch waistline, they’re all probably just that: rumors.

3. Beauty pageant candidates are pretty much their own hair and makeup artists
Not all, but most of them, at least. Although Binibining Pilipinas had David’s Salon as its official sponsor for the hair and makeup of the candidates, nearly every candidate already knew how to expertly wield her own set of makeup and hair tools ranging from professional brands like Kryolan and Babyliss to department store steals, like James Cooper and Finesse. After all, in international pageants, all candidates are expected to know how to fix themselves, so it didn’t hurt to start now. In the words of Helena Rubinstein, “There are no ugly women, only lazy ones.”

4. Candidates pack a serious amount of beauty booty
Surgery and makeup aren’t the only tools candidates resort to for image enhancement. From pricy investments like veneers and hair extensions to relatively affordable enhancements like false eyelashes, contact lens, Sally Hansen spray-on tans, Hollywood Tape or double-stick tape, which served the same purpose and stick-on silicone breasts (I proudly stuffed six of these into my swimsuit — three per boob — to make up for my not-so proudly endowed chest). Honorable mentions include Mighty Bond or electric tape for candidates who had problems with ears that stuck-out and Fanny Serrano bronzer for drawing on abs and emphasizing cleavage (yep, still on the boob issue). Of course not all candidates used all of these, but they were pretty common. With the sheer amount of products we had to use every day, most of us had to wheel around suitcases to and from Araneta Center every single day.

5. The beauty queen diet
I’m quite happy to say that in the two months that I spent with my co-candidates, not one of them seemed to exhibit any kind of eating disorder. Quite the contrary because whenever food was brought into our holding area, nearly all of it was inhaled within a matter of minutes. Not the most queenly behaviour, I’ll admit, especially not when the food in question was comprised of pizza, ice cream, tacos and burritos. Yup, since the pageant sponsors were Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen and Taco Bell, they were regular items on our menu. So how to did we not turn into life-size bikini-clad blimps after ingesting all this delicious fare for two months? I’d like to think it was superhuman-control, but truth be told, the likely culprits were probably stress and the next item on my list. Well, we did sprinkle inordinate amounts of McCormick Cinammon powder (for appetite suppression) and Cayenne Pepper (to speed up metabolism) — not at the same time, mind you — on nearly everything we ingested. However, I’d like to think it was superhuman self-control, but truth be told, the likely culprits were probably stress and the next item on my list...

6. We candidates dance a lot more than I care to admit
I’m just wondering how Venus maintained her 22-inch waistline despite being faced with all that pizza (there were more, but had to be cropped out of the shot, obvs). I mean, she didn’t even touch her salad! Photo from pizzahut.com.ph Dancing. Everywhere. All the Time. Mostly in our bikinis. All this dancing was a little more painful on my part because I don’t exactly have good body coordination and with all that duck walking, I just couldn’t have danced all night. There was dancing during the opening of our talent competition in Ali Mall. Dancing at our official press presentation in Sofitel. Dancing at a cocktail event in ABS-CBN attended by guests of honor, Gabby Lopez and Charo Santos-Concio. Dancing during a TV guesting in noontime show Happy Yippe Yehey. And so on and so forth until I had no more shame left during the opening number for the coronation night where I shook my money-maker for all it was worth, much to the distress of the Filipino TV viewing public.

7. Candidates spend a lot of time talking (about) sh*t
In a room full of 40 females, there’s bound to be some nasty talk about each other, but what amused me most was our collective fixation with bowel movement. Since we regularly had pretty early call times, this messed with our regular um, programming, which was pretty frustrating. I can’t tell you how many times we complained about not being able to go or how often nearly all cubicles were occupied by candidates simultaneously trying to heed the call of nature. In fact, it wasn’t at all uncommon for us to be doing both activities at the same time. Hey, clean is beautiful!

8. Get ready for major, major intriga
Candidates were warned way ahead of time about how nasty beauty pageant-related forums could get and were advised to keep our noses out of them if we didn’t want to be negatively affected by the comments. As for rumors, gossip and intrigue circulating on these websites, these things can get pretty intense. It’s shocking how easily and freely people jump to conclusions about certain things without even bothering to check their facts first or even giving other people the benefit of the doubt, but then again, all this just comes with the territory. With that said, I’d like to give serious props to every artista who’s ever participated in a staring contest with Boy Abunda while clearing up an issue during their “The Buzz moment.”

9. Beware the DOMs!
During one of our shoots by the poolside at Sofitel, a man at the prime of his life, to put it mildly, was lurking about our set with a ginormous D-SLR hanging in front of his naked, hairy chest framed by his shamelessly unbuttoned polo. That alone, coupled with his cheesy billowy white pants, Charlie Sheen-esque shades and medyas and Birkenstock clad feet, should’ve sent warning signals to me. But no, I thought he was a member of the media. And so I politely chatted with him and only understood just what the exchange was about when he left and returned with a glass of water and plate full of fruits for me. For the remainder of the shoot, the director and the executive producer joked about the fruits having some sort of gayuma that would make me fall in love with my new “friend.” Gross, guys. Just. Gross.

10. Apparently by the end of it, the crown is nothing but a headache
Throughout the entire ordeal, several beauty queens like Venus Raj were on-hand to provide much-needed advice and guidance to the aspiring Binibinis. My favourite encounter with Raj was during the shoot for our primer in Republiq. Backstage, she enlisted the help of a hair stylist from David’s Salon to help her pin her crown on. In a pique of curiosity, I asked her if it was heavy, to which she replied in jest, “Oo! Ang sakit sa ulo!” In more ways than one, but hey, you know what they say: beauty is pain.

Precious Lara flashes 'precious' undies during pageant night

MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE) Following criticisms against Venus Raj’s controversial curly hairdo, beauty queen Precious Lara Quigaman also came under fire for how she looked during the Bb. Pilipinas 2011 coronation night.

The Internet was abuzz Sunday night with comments on Quigaman’s daring and sexy dress that showed off her gem-studded underwear because of the gown’s long slit.
In an exclusive interview with “Showbiz News Ngayon” on Thursday, Quigaman said people were probably taken aback only because she does not normally appear on TV wearing sexy dresses.

“Siguro ‘yong mga tao nanibago lang sa akin kasi usually kapag lumalabas ako very safe lang lahat ng suot ko, lahat ng damit ko. So siguro nabigla lang sila,” she said.
Quigaman stressed though that she does not think the gown is obscene.

“I don’t think it’s bastos. Hindi ko siya nakitaan ng kahit ano kasi hindi ko naman siya susuotin if it was. And tinanong ko rin ang mga tao beforehand kung okay lang ba and they said it was okay. Kahit ang mom ko tinanong ko siya, sabi niya okay naman,” she said.

According to the beauty queen, she already liked the design of the gown when she saw it the first time.
“Kapag nagsuot naman ako ng gown hindi para gumawa ng issue or para mag-ingay. Dahil gusto ko talaga. Kung ano ang nakita ko na maganda that would fit me at alam ko na hindi ako bastos, then I would wear it,” she said.

Meanwhile, Quiagaman acknowledges the fact that people have varying opinions and she cannot please everybody.

“Hindi ko iisipin kung ano ang iisipin ng ibang tao. Iba iba naman tayo ng tingin sa lahat ng bagay. Sa ibang tao gusto nila, sa ibang tao hindi nila gusto. Katulad ng lagi nating sinasabi, if you don’t have anything nice to say then huwag ka na lang magsalita. Pero siyempre hindi natin sila mapipigilan,” she said.

Quigaman was one of the pageant’s hosts last Sunday, together with Miriam Quiambao, Derek Ramsay and KC Concepcion.

Supsup graduated Magna Cum Laude from the UP College of Architecture. She also topped the Architecture board exam in July 2010.

Top UP architecture grad crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe

By Ricky Lo
The Philippine Star
April 12, 2011

MANILA, Philippines - An architecture magna cum laude graduate from the University of the Philippines (UP) who topped the architecture licensure exams in 2010 bested 39 other contestants to win the 2011 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe title at a glittering three-hour coronation night Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

No. 26 in the batch, Shamcey Gorea Supsup, 24, regal at 5’7.5” and weighing 105 lbs., won points from the board of judges when asked during the Q&A portion for the 15 semi-finalists by judge Consul General Hugh Wilson of the Australian embassy what cause she was championing. She answered, “Education. You can have money and fame but they can take (these) away from you. Education is something that nobody can take away from you.”

A Penelope Cruz look-alike, Supsup is a pageant neophyte but a favorite of the SRO crowd from the beginning of the ceremonies, covered live by ABS-CBN, the new network partner of the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI).

She studied in Thailand for more than a year during her elementary school and finished high school a salutatorian. She loves to read and to draw and, at 15, held her first painting exhibit.

“I thought it was too good to be true,” said Supsup in a phone interview with a local radio station in General Santos City, where she’s from.

The city government of General Santos, which has conferred upon Supsup the title of Gensan Ambassadress of Goodwill, is preparing a heroine’s welcome.

Named 2011 Bb. Pilipinas-International was Dianne Samar Necio, 18, from Polangui, Albay, who placed first runner-up to fellow Bicolana Venus Raj in last year’s Bb. Pilipinas search. She is the third from Albay to win a national beauty title in three years, following Jane Banares (from Legazpi City), Mutya ng Pilipinas International in 2008, and Melody Gersbach (Daraga, Albay), the 2009 Bb. Pilipinas-International who died in a car crash in August last year on her way from Daraga to Naga City to sit as judge in the 2010 Miss Bicolandia contest.

Standing 5’5.5” and weighing 116 lbs, Dianne listed baton twirling among her talents, which she displays at the University of St. Anthony in Iriga City where she studies.

Asked by judge Silvana Fornari during the Q&A what her biggest achievement was, Necio, No. 33, said, “When I placed first runner-up in last year’s Bb. Pilipinas pageant,” adding without batting an eyelash that her main goal was to win the Bb. Pilipinas-International crown. She did.

According to Albay Gov. Joey Salceda, the provincial government is preparing a red carpet motorcade for Dianne from the Legazpi Airport to the city’s major thoroughfares, and will receive a special resolution from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan recognizing her contribution to the pride and honor of Albay.

Chosen 2011 Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism, a new title added to the pageant to replace the Bb. Pilipinas-World title that now belongs to another franchise-holder, was Isabella Catipunan Manjon (No. 25), 24, who stands 5’7” and weighs 125 lbs. Asked by judge Ernie Lopez during the Q&A if a father could do the duties of a mother, Isabella, a registered nurse from UERM, and a deadringer for Angelina Jolie, said “Yes, he can,” because as far as she was concerned, “Everybody is equal.”

First runner-up was Janine Tugonon (No. 27) and second runner-up was Mary Jane Lastimosa (No. 34).
Supsup also won three special awards – Miss Philippine Airlines, Miss Cream Silk and Best in Talent.
Unlike in the past, this year’s pageant scrapped the selection of the Top Five finalists chosen from the 15 semi-finalists who impressed both the judges and the crowd with their wit and intelligence, their answers short and substantial – and grammatical. Instead, the three major winners were picked straight out of the semis.

Supsup will go to Sao Paulo, Brazil, to compete in the Miss Universe pageant which has so far been won by two Filipinas, Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margie Moran in 1973; while Necio will compete in the Miss International contest where four Filipinas have won – Gemma Cruz in 1964, Aurora Pijuan in 1970, Melanie Marquez in 1979 and Precious Lara Quigaman in 2005.

Quigaman co-hosted portions of Sunday’s ceremonies with1999 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Miriam Quiambao. Main hosts were Kapamilya stars KC Concepcion and Derek Ramsay. - With Nonong Baliao, Cet Dematera

Board topnotcher is 2011 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe; Trike driver is Manila Bulletin Readers' Choice

By ROBERT R. REQUINTINA
The Manila Bulletin
April 11, 2011

MANILA, Philippines -- Beauty and brains.

These exemplify Shamcey Supsup, topnotcher of the 2010 board examinations for architecture, who was crowned 2011 Bb. Pilipinas- Universe Sunday night at the Araneta Coliseum.

If Supsup has beauty and brains, crowd favorite and this year’s Manila Bulletin Readers’ Choice awardee, Luzelle Felipe, has a big fighting heart.

A day after the Bb. Pilipinas pageant, Felipe – a part-time tricycle driver – vowed to join anew the beauty contest to fulfill her ultimate dream of becoming a beauty queen.

“Madami po akong pangarap. Pero pangarap ko talaga maging beauty queen.’’

“Hindi ako sasali next year. Pero siguro pag-nasa 20s na po ako, sasali po uli ako sa beauty contest at gusto ko Bb. Pilipinas pageant uli. By that time, ready na talaga ako,” said Felipe, who also won the Best Long Gown, in a phone interview from her home in Bulacan.

While waiting for her time, Felipe wants to go into modeling and enroll in an English language course. “Gusto kong maging perfect ang pagsasalita ko ng English kasi medyo mahina po ako sa grammar. Yun ang gusto kong matutunan.’’

Felipe said she also wants to become a flight stewardess.

Felipe, 18, hails from Bulacan. She stands 5’7” and weighs 108 lbs. Felipe has just graduated from the Bulacan Polytechnic College where she obtained a certificate course in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Her hobbies include composing songs, volleyball, singing and dancing.

But what surprised the public was the fact that Felipe used to drive a tricycle to earn extra income. She said that she is not ashamed of being a part-time tricycle driver because it is through tricycle driving that she earned extra income.

“Apat po kaming magkakapatid, bale. Ako pa lang po yung nakakapagsuot ng itim na toga. Kung hindi po ako tinulungan ng ninang ko, hindi po ako makakapag-aral,” said Felipe, in a recent interview over ABS-CBN “TV Patrol.’’ She added: “Basta kung gusto mo. Magagawa’t magagawa mo.’’

Meanwhile, Supsup will represent the country in the 2011 Miss Universe beauty contest in Sao Paolo, Brazil in September.

“Ang daming magaganda, I still can't believe it!” Supsup said. Asked if she feels the pressure to duplicate, if not surpass, the success of Maria Venus Raj in the 2010 Miss Universe contest, she said: “Basta, I will do my best in Brazil. Kung para sa'yo, it's for you talaga (If the crown is yours, then it is for you).”

Supsup, 24, stands 5'7 1/4 and weighs 105 lbs. Her hobbies include painting, reading books, and drawing.

She studied in grade school for one year in Thailand and graduated salutatorian in high school. Later, she finished magna cum laude at the College of Architecture of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. In the architecture board exams released last June, Supsup was ranked No. 1 with a rating of 86.60 percent.

Supsup also won special awards such as Best in Talent, Miss Philippine Airlines, and Miss Cream Silk.

Other winners are Dianne Necio, 17, of Albay, who was crowned the 2011 Bb. Pilipinas International; Isabela Manjon, 23, who won the 2011 Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism title, a new plum that replaced the Bb. Pilipinas-World title; Janine Tugonon, first runner-up; and Mary Jean Lastimosa, second runner-up. Those who won special awards were Queenierich Rehman, Best in Swimsuit; Luzelle Felipe, Manila Bulletin Readers' Choice Award and Best in Long Gown; Angelia Ong, Face of Bb. Pilipinas; and Samantha Purvor, Miss Friendship.

The most emotional moment of the night was the crowning of Necio as 2011 Bb. Pilipinas-International. She will represent the country in the 2011 Miss International contest in Japan.

Necio was last year’s first runner-up and was supposed to represent the country in the 2010 Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada, when Venus Raj was dethroned as 2010 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe.

But the Miss Universe Organization said Necio did not meet the age requirements of the pageant. She was replaced by second runner-up Nicolette Henson.

Before the pageant, Raj was reinstated and she competed in Las Vegas, where she won fourth runner-up.

Necio, a nursing student, decided to compete again this year, saying she was ready for the pageant. Her hobbies include baton-twirling and playing the piano.

Manjon, meanwhile, weighs 125 lbs. and is a varsity swimmer.

Organizers said that the top three winners will get a management con¬tract worth P500,000 from the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI), scholarships from the Entrepreneur School of Asia, Dale Carnegie Training Center, and Berlitz Language Center, a trip to the Miss Universe/Miss International headquarters, personal accident insurance worth P2 million from Charter Insurance Corporation, wardrobe package and free membership from Gold's Gym. The winners will also enjoy a year's supply of Cream Silk products.
Organizers said that the total prize package in cash and kind is worth more than P4 million, the record for the biggest prize in pageant history.

Among the members of the board of judges were Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eduardo Oban, Jr., Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda, former Miss Universe Margie Moran-Florendo, Charo Santos-Concio, Silvana Fornari, Gilbert Simpao, Ernie Lopez, Hugh Wilson, Alex Cabagnot, Charlemagne Uy, and Christino Naguiat Jr.

Architect hailed as Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011

MANILA, Philippines – 24-year old architect Shamcey Supsup is still in a daze after being crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011 on April 10.

“I still can't believe it. Parang panaginip. Kanina nung nag announce na, sabi ko it's God's will. If it's for you, it's for you. You just have to believe it," Supsup told Yahoo's omg! Philippines in a post-pageant interview.

"Whatever happens, it happens for a reason and God has a plan for every one of us... Ang dami talagang magaganda. Ang dami talagang magagaling. Feeling ko the judges had a hard time choosing the winner for the year," she added.

Supsup, a General Santos City-native, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines - Diliman’s College of Architecture and topped the June 2010 Architecture License Exam.

While Supsup feels no pressure in trying to achieve the same feat as her predecessor, Ma. Venus Raj (also crowned Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up), she said that she will give it her best shot at the pageant, which will be held at Sao Paolo, Brazil.

“I'm not pressured at all kasi I believe I was here for a reason and whatever my destiny is, I'll do my best. I'm just gonna give it my all and I hope that whatever I'm gonna do there [Brazil] 'yun ang hinahanap nila at kung para talaga sa 'yo para talaga sa 'yo,” she told Yahoo's omg.

Aside from winning said title, Supsup also took home special awards Best in Talent, Miss PAL and Miss Cream Silk.

Meanwhile, the Bininibing Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) awarded, for the first time, the Binibining Pilipinas-Tourism crown as replacement to the Binibining Pilipinas-World title, which branched out this year as a separate beauty pageant. Isabella Manjon bagged said crown, while Dianne Necio is this year’s Binibining Pilipinas-International.

Necio, who was the pageant’s first runner-up last year, said that she did not expect winning anything and just left her fate to the Lord.

“I'm just thankful na I will have the chance to compete in an international title... Talagang 'pag 'di mo tinigilan 'yung dream mo, maaabot mo siya... [so] keep on praying,” she added.

More, Janine Tugonon finished in fourth place and Mary Jean Lastimosa, fifth.

Other lucky ladies who took home special awards are Queenierich Rehman (Best in Swimsuit), Luzelle Felipe (Best in Long Gown and Manila Bulletin Reader’s Choice), Angelia Ong (People's Choice for the Face of Binibining Pilipinas 2011), Samantha Purvor (Miss Friendship) and Elizabeth Clenci (Best in National Costume).

RELINQUISHING THE CROWN

MAJOR, MAJOR By Venus Raj
The Philippine Star
April 10, 2011

Tonight, I shall pass on the crown to whoever is deserving of the title Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2011.
I will never get tired recalling how this journey started. I was just a girl who dared to dream and was generously blessed with people who helped me along the way.

Good or bad, I cherish all memories because I appreciate how everything works out to shape me into a better person every day. But this past year has been extra special for me because it started a new chapter in a way I never imagined. It really was a dream come true.

Both nervous and excited, I still remember my first few days as a beauty queen. The newfound popularity was intimidating because I was aware of the great responsibility that came with it. I was especially not prepared for even more attention particularly surrounding the brief controversy that really tested my faith and resilience. In all of these I was truly blessed with people who were my stronghold. And eventually, everything turned out very well indeed.

I will forever be grateful to Madam Stella Marquez de Araneta, Mr. Jorge Araneta and the Araneta family, as well as the BPCI organization for this opportunity of a lifetime.

Special thanks to the OPMB family and Mabuhay Beauties for campaigning and supporting me during the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas: Boyet Blas, Jory Rivera, Felix Manuel, Raymond Derek Samson, Gino Fernando, John Morante, Dondi, Adam Mears, Darwin Mendoza, Raymond Satalal, Ronald Quilon, Reianna Sanchez, Geoffrey Campaner Hutchinson, Rosalyn Andersen, Sheila Cabuco Butler,Yari Paris, Nikette Henson, Ross Misa and Lia Andrea Ramos, Fortunato Nacua and Mary Doreen Seitz. Thank you also to my dentist, Dr. Ronwaldo Navarro, my dermatologist, Dr. Genevieve de Guzman.

To Paula Shugart and the Miss Universe organization, thank you so much!

To all our mentors and sponsors, thank you for the wisdom and learnings that you have shared with us!

To the past queens, thank you for all the wonderful experiences.
To the GAY COMMUNITY, I salute all of you for being so courageous in fighting for my crown and thank you for always believing in me.

To my ABS-CBN family, thank you for accepting me wholeheartedly.

To Atty. Francis Papica, Atty. Gigi Berberabe, Atty. Ted Pastrana, Atty. Dickson Berberabe and Atty. Fe Buelva. Thank you guys for being my defense system.

To my ACES and Queens family, my mentor Jonas Antonio Gaffud and Mercator Model and Artist Management, to my mommy Ruffa “Arnold Mercado”, Mama Nad, Kuya Albert, Kuya Arj, Bessy, Edda, John Cuay, direk Jeffrey Jeturian, Tito Ces Evangelista and Tito Gerry Diaz. To my friends, Kuya Jerome, Mama Anjo, Kuya Tyrone. To Kuya Alden and Melody, you will always be in my heart.

To the Municipality of Bato, San Vicente High School faculty, my Bicol University professors. To my best friends Mau, Bubbles and Dunhill and to all my journalism classmates; to Tito Ricky and The Philippine STAR.

To all the Bicolanos, thank you for all the support. To my family, mama, papa, to my beautiful sisters, nene, Ate Inday, Ate Cel and Ate Ning-Ning, you are the best sisters in the world!

To God, you are my inspiration in everything. I dedicate all these achievements to you. You are the ultimate reason for my existence. I cannot thank you enough. We may excel and fail, but if we have faith in God… everything is a blessing.

This page is not enough to contain the names of all the people I owe this success to, I apologize for missing out some, but be assured you are all in my heart and my love goes out to all of you.

Everybody deserves to have their dreams come true. I had my turn, and it is someone else’s turn this time around.

The next lady who will be crowned tonight will definitely be blessed with a most captivating and transforming experience and I wish her all the best.

Venus Raj to share everything she knows about competing in beauty pageants to the next title holders

by Rommel R. Llanes
April 8, 2011
pep.ph

"Well, nung una, parang...kasi halos kahit saan, di ba, lumalabas?

Pilipinas-Universe, may panibago nang magko-compete for international pageant. I'm happy, actually, for them. At least, mae-enjoy rin nila kung ano yung na-experience ko sa international pageant. Mae-experience din nila yung feeling ng ano ang feeling na naroon at nagko-compete. And I'm always praying na sana, galingan din nila. Na sana, ma-surpass nila kung ano yung na-attain natin this year."
