40 finalists named for 2011 Binibining Pilipinas

Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. has officially chosen the final 40 contestants who will compete in the 2011 Grand Coronation night in April.

These 40 candidates will vie for the titles of Binibining Pilipinas Universe and International.

BPCI chairperson Stella Marquez Araneta, directors Pitoy Moreno and Conchitina Sevilla Bernardo along with the current and former Bb. Pilipinas title holders converged at the Gateway Suites, Araneta Center, Quezon City on Saturday, January 29, to officially choose the candidates who made the final cut.
A total of 108 contestants participated in the Saturday screening.

The screening and selection process is usually done closed doors in previous years, but this year, BPCI decided to allow the media to witness the event.

In an exclusive interview with Yahoo! Southeast Asia, Araneta said this year's beauty pageant will not be different from previous competitions because of certain limitations but nevertheless, the 2011 Binibining Pilipinas Grand Coronation Night will still be "exciting."

"Well, actually it's a beauty pageant so we have certain things to follow that will be the same only that ABS-CBN (will broadcast the pageant this year). We have great expectations for the show and we are very happy with the candidates that we have this year so I think it will be very exciting," Araneta told Yahoo! Southeast Asia.

She also added that this new batch of candidates exude a wealth of potential.

"I see that there are many girls that have the 'it' on stage. Even if they're just standing there, they show personality. That is important in a contest. There are many beautiful girls in the contest whether local or international that no matter how beautiful they are if they don't have that element, they won't shine, they won't make it. And there are many here who have that," Araneta said.

Meanwhile, Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2010 Venus Raj couldn't help but look back at her experience when she was aspiring to become a finalist last year.

"This is the very same venue. Nandyan kami na paulit-ulit ng paulit-ulit na paulit-ulit na tintingnan yung hitsura mo kasi nga daw mahirap mag-judge. Kaya ngayon alam ko kung gano kasasakit ang likod ng mga babae na kahit masakit na yung mga likod nila nakatawa pa rin," said Venus.

Venus also gave her advice to the candidates who did and did not make the cut.

"Well sa lahat ng mga candidates ngayon, unang-una sa mga hindi mapipili ngayon, well hindi rin naman ito ang katapusan ng pangarap nila, ng journey nila...Yung mga dati na hindi nakapasok pero the following year sila yung nakapasok. So don't stop dreaming, ganun lang. Sa mga makakapasok they're very fortunate na makakasama sila sa official candidates ng Binibining Pilipinas. Siguro ngayon ang iniisip muna nila makapasok lang pero siguro sa process kailangan nila isipin na 'mananalo ako, mananalo ako.' Ganoon kasi. Kung ang gusto mo lang makapasok sa official candidates definitely hanggang doon ka lang. Pero if you aim high at iisipin mo na mananalo ka, maaabot mo yun. Basta yun lang talaga ang itatak mo sa isip mo," Venus told Yahoo! Southeast Asia.

The Binibining Pilipinas Grand Coronation Night will be held at the Araneta Coliseum in April with live exclusive telecast on ABS-CBN.

Bb. Pilipinas marks more milestones in 2011

MANILA, Philippines —  In a surprising twist of events, 40, not 24, ladies will vie for the Binibining Pilipinas Beauty Pageant’s highly coveted titles this year.

“We want it to be different this year. This year, it’s really amazing. The number of qualified girls, there’s just so many of them. So many qualified girls and we can’t just limit them to 24, so that’s why we decided to extend it,” Gines Enriquez, Araneta Coliseum Sales and Marketing Manager, explained to Bulletin Entertainment after the Binibining Pilipinas 2011 Special Press Preview held at the Gateway Suites last Jan. 29.

The decision to choose 40 instead of the traditional 24 official candidates is a first in the pageant’s 46-year history. Members of the press were invited to witness the screenings that began last week; another move that is also a first since the entire screening process used to be a private affair.

Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. chair Stella Marquez Araneta explained to Bulletin Entertainment why they decided to involve the media more actively this year.

“We like to do things that will be more relevant to the year. And I think that people want to be more involved, that's why I have invited people to come in and see what we do,” said she.

Araneta also clarified that there had not been any changes in the pageant’s selection process rules in light of the Venus Raj nationality mix-up last year.

“No, no. There are no difference[s] in the rules. The rules are the same.

“There was just a mistake that she brought some papers that were not for the international contest and that's why she was disqualified. Once things were fixed, then she was welcomed [back].

“But the rules are still the same, they have not changed,” she said.

The remaining 50 applicants endured the rigorous, more than six-hour long final screening in front of a panel consisting of Araneta, BPCI co-vice chair Pitoy Moreno, and past and reigning beauty queens including Venus Raj, 2010 Bb. Pilipinas - International Krista Kleiner, 2010 Bb. - Pilipinas World Charina Gatbonton and 2010 2nd runner-up Nicolette Henson.

“We are thinking of who will represent the best from the Philippines, and that's all my concern. But of course, we select girls who are qualified to enter a beauty contest internationally and have a chance to win,” Araneta said.

This year’s roster of applicants was composed of registered nurses, models, hosts, athletes, and corporate professionals, among others. Aside from parading in their cocktail dresses and two-piece swimsuits, some of the applicants also showcased their talents such as singing, guitar playing and beatboxing.

However, two candidates who stood out because of their backgrounds were former “Deal or No Deal 26k” girl Martha Chloe McCulley and Kathleen Subijano, younger sister of 1994 Bb. Pilipinas – World Cara Subijano.

Bb. Pilipinas 2011 Official Candidates Announced!

After a series of screenings, the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) finally chosen the 40 official candidates for this year’s Binibining Pilipinas Pageant. The final screening was held yesterday, January 29, 2010.

Also, the BPCI announced that a Bb. Pilipinas Globe International winner will be chosen during the coronation night along with Bb. Pilipinas Universe and Bb. Pilipinas International.

The Bb. Pilipinas Globe International title replaced the Bb. Pilipinas World title. This is after the BPCI lost the Miss World franchise.

The 3 titleholders (Universe, International & Globe International will be crowned in April at the Araneta Coliseum and will be aired on ABS-CBN.

Right after Miss Universe-Philippines Venus Raj took her bow as STAR columnist (Major, Major, every Sunday in the Entertainment Section) late last year, Funfare’s “other beauty expert” Celso de Guzman Caparas made a major, major discovery.

“Venus is in good company,” said Celso. “There were other beauty queens who became journalists.”
Here they are (from Celso’s extensive research):

• 1908 Carnival Queen Pura Villanueva (1886-1954) wrote articles for and edited the Woman’s Page of El Tiempo (circulated in Iloilo). She was the Spanish section editor of Women’s Outlook (the campaign voice of National Federation of Women’s Clubs). Through her writing endeavors, she met her future husband, renowned nationalist Teodoro M. Kalaw, the editor of El Renamiciento. She founded the Philippine Women Writers Association, an organization devoted to showcasing the literary and writing skills of Filipinas.

•  1912 Carnival Queen Paz Marquez (1894-1983), regarded as the matriarch of Filipino writers in English, she founded the Women’s Home Journal (the country’s first women’s magazine) in 1919. She became the editor of The Philippine Journal of Education for two decades, the job she inherited from her late husband, Francisco Benitez in 1951.

• 1924 Carnival Queen Trinidad Fernandez was the English section editor of Women’s Outlook and wrote the Philippine Women and the Vote for the Philippine Magazine in 1931, a mainstream publication with mainly male followers. She was the president of NFWC that led the campaign for suffrage in our country in 1921.

•  1931 Carnival Queen Maria Kalaw (1912-1992) embraced journalism and literature like her parents, some of her writings were published in Graphic and The Literary Apprentice magazines. She became a columnist for The Manila Times and Weekly Nation. Maria was elected president of Philippine Women Writers Association in the 1950s.

• 1952 (first) Miss Universe Armi Helena Kuusela of Finland wrote her memoirs (translated by her husband, Virgilio Hilario) in her column, Beyond All Barriers, published in The Manila Chronicle (1954) in 62 installments.

•  1952 Miss Europe Gunseli Basar of Turkey wrote a column, Gunseli Oradaydi (Gunseli Was There) in Turkish daily newspaper Hurriyet. 


•  1960 (first) Miss Philippines International Edita Vital was editor of the fashion and features section of Asian Forum Magazine in the late ‘70s.

•  1964 Miss International Gemma Cruz has written articles for various broadsheets and magazines through the years with the preservation of cultural and historical heritage as its theme in general. At age nine, Gemma was already writing a column, Children’s Corner, for Weekly Women’s Magazine. After college, she wrote for the Sunday Times Magazine and the pre-martial law Weekly Graphic Magazine. Her column, Landscape, is currently being published in Manila Bulletin’s Op-Ed section.

•  1964 (first) Bb. Pilipinas Universe Myrna Panlilio (1942-2009) was a Philippine Daily Inquirer contributor. Barely two months before her sudden demise, her write-up, We Mothers Try to Move on Past Our Grief, was published on May 10, 2009.

•  1967 Miss America Jane Anne Jayroe wrote articles (Out of the Blue, Delight Comes into Your Life and Chicken Soup for the Mother’s Soul) for McCall’s magazine and other publications. She was Miss Oklahoma 1966.

•  1970 Miss Universe Marisol Malaret of Puerto Rico is the founder and editor of Imagen in 1986, the island’s first women’s and family lifestyle magazine; and Caras in 1992 which she headed until 2002.

•  1970 Miss Asia Zeenat Aman of India became a journalist for Femina magazine in late ‘60s right after she returned from her studies in University of Southern California.

•  1972 Miss Black Tennessee Oprah Winfrey publishes two magazines: O, The Oprah Magazine and O At Home. She was also Nashville’s Miss Fire Prevention 1971 and joined the Miss Black America pageant in 1972.

•  1973 Miss Universe Margie Moran wrote for Across the Nation section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer for two years in the early 2000. Her column, My Point, discussed the peace process in Mindanao, its culture, arts and traditions, among other topics.

•  1978 Miss Universe Margaret Gardiner of South Africa became a print journalist and is presently based in Los Angeles. She’s an active member of Hollywood Foreign Press Association (composed of 90 members from 55 countries who cover the US film industry) that hands out the annual Golden Globe Awards (now on its 67th year). (Trivia: Margaret wore a gown created by L.A.-based Filipino fashion designer, Oscar Challenge finalist Oliver Tolentino, during the 2010 Golden Globe Awards).

•  1985 Miss Universe Deborah Carthy-Deu of Puerto Rico wrote a column for the Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper, The San Juan Star, and in Style section of San Juan City Magazine (San Juan is the capital city of Puerto Rico). Deborah was already 43 when she gave birth to her first child, a boy, in October 2009.

• 1990 Miss Universe Mona Grudt of Norway is an editor of the magazine Ditt Bryllup (Your Wedding). Mona holds the distinction as the last Miss Universe to join the Bob Hope USO Tour.

•  1990 Miss World Gina Marie Tolleson of USA (and Queen of Americas) became an executive editor of glossy Santa Barbara Magazine in 2002. Gina was Miss USA 1990 (from South Carolina) first runner-up.

•  1992 Miss USA Shannon LaRhea Marketic gained acceptance into the Who’s Who in American Women for her writing accomplishments. While still a teenager, she was an editor and a columnist of Prime Time Magazine, a teen magazine. She was Miss California 1992 and a Top 10 semi-finalist in the 1992 Miss Universe pageant.

•  1994 Miss America Kimberly Clarice Aiken is a regular columnist for Pageantry Magazine, touted as the “Bible of the Pageant Industry,” extensively covers the world of both national and international competitions. She was Miss South Carolina 1994.

•  1997 Bb. Pilipinas Universe Abbygale Arenas wrote for Manila Bulletin (Manners by: Ms. Abby) and Mirror Weekly magazine’s Beauty & Fashion Section (For Women Only) in 2000 and 2001, respectively. She gave tips and pieces of advice on personality development, visual poise, wardrobe, etiquette, hair and make-up and other related subjects in both columns. She was Miss Photogenic and placed 11th overall in Miss Universe 1997 won by Brook Lee of USA.

•  2000 Miss Asia Pacific Diya Mirza of India used to write for The Hindustan Times and other publications as a guest writer.

•  2001 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Zorayda Ruth Andam, 2001 Bb. Pilipinas-World Gilrhea Quinzon and 2001 Bb. Pilipinas-International Maricarl Tolosa wrote for Just For Kicks section of Manila Bulletin in 2004. The triumvirate’s column, Innerglow, tackled beauty and personality development.

•  2006 Miss Philippines Earth Catherine Untalan writes a column, Green Niche, in Gen G Magazine, Philippines’ first green lifestyle magazine launched in 2009.

•  2007 Miss Philippines Earth Jeanne Harn used to write for the weekly Showbiz Sosyal. Her column, Green Lifestyle is environment and earth-friendly living up to her beauty title.

•  2008 Bb. Pilipinas International Patricia Fernandez started writing for Showbiz Sosyal’s Lifestyle section mid of this year. Originally titled It’s My World, her column was changed recently to Chot’s World. Chot is her nickname.

•  2009 Miss Philippines Earth Sandra Inez Seifert has written articles for magazines on social awareness issues.

A separate Miss World-Philippines search

MANILA, Philippines - Starting this year, a Bb. Pilipinas-World crown will no longer be among the top three plums in the iconic Bb. Pilipinas pageant. There will be a separate search for Miss World Philippines, the winner of which will represent the country in the Miss World contest.

Julia Morley, chairman and CEO of Miss World Limited, arrived on Monday to announce the awarding of the exclusive licensee agreement of Miss World Philippines to media personality and wellness guru Cory Quirino who will take charge of the first Miss World Philippines tilt this August.

In a press conference at the Shangri-La Makati yesterday, Morley said they made the move so they can focus on their socio-civic projects and raise more funds for poor beneficiaries in the Philippines, particularly the PGH Medical Foundation and Tuloy Street Children Foundation.

“The job of Miss World is always for fund-raising. The crown is a symbol of fund-raising. Our aim, our vision at Miss World is always ‘Beauty with a Purpose.’ What is a crown without a purpose?’” explained Morley who is in Manila for the first time since Miss World was established in 1951.

Also present at the presscon were reigning Miss World Alexandria Mills (of USA), 2010 Miss World first runner-up Emma Wareus, 1973 Miss World first runner-up Evangeline Pascual and 1993 Miss World Second Princess Ruffa Gutierrez.

Morley clarified that she has no intention to offend or rile Madame Stella Marquez Araneta, head of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) in the decision to hold an individual Miss World contest. She reiterated that her primary reason to separate is to focus more on their vision to raise funds for their beneficiaries and they can do this if they hold a separate contest.

“The truth is I needed to give the Philippines as many opportunities. We need to raise funds for poor and sick at the PGH for their ventilation, the antibiotics, more medical equipment. The thing is I want to be involved. I can’t do that if we don’t have an individual contest. I don’t have a voice here before and now I want to be involved, I want to be connected. We have big plans to raise money for the children,” said Morley.

She said her heart bled when she paid a visit to the PGH and saw the miserable conditions of the children, particularly a scene when a nurse was operating a manual ventilator to an asthma patient.

“The thing is I don’t want to battle with anyone. This is not a fight, there is no dispute. We will always honor other beauty contests. I know that during the time that Stella ran the tilt with Miss World, she’s done a good job. But now, I would like to have my own contest so I can be more involved. I want my own brand and not be lumped with other people. I want to stand alone for Filipino children.”

She expressed hope that Madame Araneta will not take offense.

“She has three or four titles and if she’s got one less to worry about, then it’d be good. I don’t want to be childish or selfish. There are too many nasty things in the world. Being negative is not good for the people.”

Morley also said the awarding of the license was a highlight of her world tour, calling it a momentous occasion for Miss World organizers.

The organization is currently celebrating its 60thyear of “Beauty with a Purpose” and has raised more than $400M in support of children’s charities across the globe since its inception.

“The Philippines is a great country and has the most beautiful places so we’d be excited if we can hold it here,” she said.

Quirino, for her part, said accepting the offer was the greatest decision of her life.

“We are entering into a new era of pageants, in keeping with our mission and values. With more than 15 years as an officer serving Rotary International Districts 3818 and 3830, I have found the focus on community development by the organizers of Miss World congruent with my continuing advocacies,” Quirino said. “It’s my commitment to be a catalyst for women and children’s health, development and empowerment. Socio-civic undertakings will be a core activity of Miss World Philippines.”

Applicants to the Miss World Philippines must be 17 to 24 years old, tall, has a big heart for service, has beauty, intelligence and love for her country.

MANILA, Philippines – For the first time, the Philippines will bid to host the Miss World beauty pageant in 2013, Cory Quirino, president of the Miss Philippines World franchise, said Wednesday.

Quirino also said that the Miss World Limited (MWL), headed by its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Julia Morley has vowed to help the Philippines through fund-raising events as she instructed her “to find a poor, barrio lass” who has the chance to become the next Miss World.

Asked about expectations under the “Cory administration,” “I will find her,” said Quirino, a tri-media personality and wellness expert. “I will also be hands-on in choosing our representative for the next Miss World contest later this year.”

Quirino issued the statement after Morley awarded her the exclusive licensee agreement of Miss World Philippines at a ceremony in Makati City last Tuesday.

Miss World is believed to be the longest-running international beauty pageant. But for 60 years, the country has not won the title. The highest rank the country has achieved was first runner-up won by Evangeline Pascual in 1973.

“I want to tell them that being poor is not a hindrance to success. That’s why we will encourage the poorest of the poor to join our pageant,” Quirino added.

Quirino also said that Morley and her party and Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim have discussed plans for the possible holding of the beauty pageant in Manila. Morley was also accompanied by Miss World Ltd. Events Director Stephen Douglas and Consultant to Miss World-Asia Paul Lee.

“It will be a big responsibility and we will need the help of the government and the private sector if plans will push through. Pero, ang balik naman nito sa atin ay malaki, lalo na para sa turismo ng ating bansa (But our goal is to boost tourism to the Philippines),” she said.

Morley, accompanied by 2010 Miss World Alexandria Mills of the USA and first runner-up Emma Wareus of Botswana, left the country Wednesday morning. But Quirino said that last Tuesday night, Morley promised to return to the country to help raise bigger funds for charity.

“Julia Morley will be back in August. She loves the Philippines, and she wants to help our country,” said Quirino, also chair of World-for-All Foundation.

Tuesday night, Quirino accompanied Morley and her party made special trips to the Ospital ng Makati in Makati City, Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Taft Ave., Malate, Manila, and Tuloy Street Children’s Foundation in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

“Julia and her party cried at the Tuloy Street Children’s Foundation. Even Miss World cried. They were touched by the reception of the children,” Quirino said. She added that the MWL has “adopted” two heart patients at the Ospital ng Makati.

The organization is celebrating its 60th year of “Beauty with a Purpose” and has raised more than $400 million in support of children’s charities across the globe since its inception.

At the luncheon ceremony, Mrs. Morley recalled the pageant’s history. Founded by her husband Eric Morley in 1951, the first Miss World pageant was welcomed by an audience greater than those in other international events such as the World Cup and the Olympic Games. At its peak, the show claimed an audience of 27.5 million in Britain alone.

Miss World officially transferred the Miss World franchise to Ms. Cory Quirino, a popular media personality, which a lunch event held at Makati Shangri-la, January 25. The Miss World franchise for the Philippines was owned by Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc. before. Present during the ceremony are Miss World owner Madam Julia Morley, Miss World 2010 Alexandria Mills of USA, Miss Botswana Emma Wareus, 1993 Miss World 2nd runner-up Ruffa Gutteriez and 1973 Miss World 1st runner-up Evangeline Pascual.

Madam Morley gave a speech as well as the new national director of Miss World Philippines Qory Quirino. Later, Madam Morley was asked if there is any possibility that the Philippines will host the Miss World contest. She answered that such should be done with the desire of the people. She was also asked if a Filipina will soon be crowned as Miss World and answered that it is very likely because Ms. Quirino is a passionate pageant director. Ms. Quirino said that the local pageant, Miss World Philippines, will be held tentatively in August or September but she will start scouting for beauties as early as March.

Official transfer of franchise

Miss World 2010 Alexandria Mills will also conduct a charity event at the Philippine General Hospital. She had been touring around the world for notable causes. She was first involved in charity event in Buffalo, New York and then flew over to Malaysia for a charity event for children. Expect Alexandria to be a jet-setter this year and be focused on more charity activities.

Miss World tilt now in the country

MANILA, Philippines – Expect the country to host a Miss World beauty pageant very soon as the Philippines now holds the franchise to the 60-year-old pageant.

Miss World Limited President Julia Morley flew to the country to personally award the franchise to trimedia personality Cory Quirino.

Morley arrived Monday afternoon from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, together with reigning Miss World Alexandria Mills and runner-up Emma Warells.

The awarding of the franchise will be held Tuesday during formal ceremonies at the Shangri-la Makati.
According to Quirino, the new franchise means that an exclusive search for the country's representative to the Miss World pageant will be held beginning this year.

Quirino disclosed that beginning March, they will scour the country for intelligent and beautiful Filipinas for the first Miss World Philippines pageant which is scheduled to be presented in August this year.
She added that they will require participants to be at least 5'-7" in height and must have a deep and great love for the Philippines and intelligent enough to express her thoughts properly.

The country's representative in the Miss World pageant used to be picked from contestants of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant.

While in the Philippines, Morley, Mills, and Warells will tour the country, visiting numerous charitable institutions to spread the advocacy of strengthening children and women's rights.

Meanwhile, officials at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport said the holding of the Miss World contest in the Philippines, if it pushes through, will considerably boost the number of arrivals at the airport and help the nation by way of additional revenues from tourism.

'Modeling runs in her blood'

MANILA, Philippines – A 17-year-old catwalk newbie from the Philippines won the 2011 Supermodel of the World contest in New York City, the first time that the country won the prestigious model search.
Danica Flores Magpantay, a student of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines (UP), won a US$250,000 contract from the Eileen Ford Modeling Agency. It is believed be the fashion industry’s biggest prize for a model search.

Magpantay stands 5’9” and weighs 109 lbs.

First runner-up was Lithuania, whose representative won a US$150,000 modeling contract while second runner-up, Poland, took home US$100,000. Representatives from Brazil and Poland rounded up the Top 5.

Observers said that modeling runs in the blood of Magpantay with her mother, Lala Flores, now a professional make-up artist, also representing the Philippines in the same modeling contest 20 years ago.
Last year, the Philippines figured prominently in the model search when Chat Almarvez was adjudged first-runner up.

The first Filipino to join the international modeling search was 1979 Miss International Melanie Marquez who
finished as one of the semi-finalists.

The contest, which started in the 1980s as “Face of the 80s,’’ discovers new talent for the fashion industry.
In an interview posted by Adventures of a Beauty Queen, after she won the local model search last Oct. 31, 2010, Magpantay said that it was only last August when she decided she wanted to give modeling a try.
Magpantay said she told about her plans to her mother who agreed to her decision.

The newest Ford model said that her mother enrolled her at the Masters School for Models where she took courses on walking and posing, among others.

After Magpantay graduated from the modeling school, her mentors urged her to join the Philippine search for the representative to the Supermodel of the World contest.

In the local search, Danica’s sister, Danielle, also joined the same contest. In the end, Danica won while her sister finished eighth.

Prior to the contest, their mother had advised them not to expect anything from the contest. She said that the two sisters should be thankful that they were given the chance to join the model search.

Pogs Magpantay, a registered nurse and dad of the model sisters, has encouraged his daughters to shine as models. His friends have labeled him as model makers with three models running in the family circle.
Danica said that she trains hard at the gym. Her biggest dream is to become one of the top models for Victoria’s Secret.

After a series of negotiations, 2010 Miss Universe runner-up Maria Venus Raj finally signed up with the Kapamilya network last January 14 at the ABS-CBN compound. According to ABS-CBN Business Unit Head Linggit Tan, the 22-year-old reigning Binibining Pilipinas-Universe is welcome to be part of the Kapamilya network for as long as she likes. In line with this major partnership, ABS-CBN also signed on to air the Binibining Pilipinas pageants for the next five years. This guarantees that the Philippine’s most prestigious beauty competition can be watched not only locally, but worldwide via ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC). After representing the country abroad in the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada last year, the statuesque morena has been very visible in the local media. So it wasn’t any surprise that she received a lot of show business offers before she finally decided to sign up with ABS-CBN.

Venus admitted that she received an offer from former ABS-CBN talent Willie Revillame to be a part of his show on another network. But Venus passed on the offer because any career decision she made also had to be done in consultation with Binibining Pilipinas Charities, which are managing her career. “May offer talaga. Nakausap ko si Mr. Willie Revillame one time nung nagkita kami sa isang function pero sinabi ko nga na hindi rin naman ako lang ang nag-decide sa mga bagay na yun at alam ko naman na parang nag-sa-start na rin yung negotiations with ABS-CBN at that time,” she said.

Venus said she graciously declined the offer so there isn’t any bad blood between her and Willie. “Hindi ko rin naman talaga siya nakikita ng personal at nakakausap so feeling ko wala naman. Magaling naman yung nakuha nilang co-host ni Mr.Willie Revillame so okay lang din yun,” she said. Venus also vehemently denied being courted by the host. “Hindi naman, grabe naman yun. Nagkita lang kami, nagkausap, ganun lang. Wala naman sigurong ample time para magligawan,” she stressed.

Even though she only found out about her contract-signing the night before negotiations were finalized, Venus said she has been excited by the thought of working in ABS-CBN ever since the possibility was brought up with her. “Sobrang saya at sobrang excited ko ngayon. Talagang nung gabi sobrang saya ko na halos hindi na ako makatulog kasi iniisip ko yung mangyayari ngayon at eto na nga yun, medyo matagal-tagal din yung negotiations, kung anu-ano pinag-usapan nila. Pero sabi nga, kahit gaano katagal, we are very happy na nandito na kami sa ABS-CBN. I’m extremely honored to become part of the country’s biggest network. I’m proud to be a Kapamilya,” she admitted.
